Second Meeting of the Medicine Men
" I would like to continue the work on medicinal plants and I also want to take advantage of the knowledge of the elders. If we want all these projects to work then all these projects have to be clean, without any other intentions except in the project. The annual Shamans Confederation Meeting is held each year to create connection and revaluing of the Native Plants, their uses and the evaluation of the traditional medicinal practices of the Amazon communities, including the native Huacaria, Philcopata, Cuzco, Peru, Shipetiari, Tayaccne and Yomibato. The personal interviews were conducted by Donna R. Runnalls, Director Living Bridges Foundation and Richard Aguayo Rodriquez in the offices of Pro-Naturaleza in the town on Philcopata, Peru on the third day of the meeting.

Beginning the Reunion
Mateo :
“This meeting of the medicine people is to remind us to respect our elders who had always had a loving taste for curing – they taught us to cure with our will and not only for economic gain or benefit.”
Alberto:
“Once more I would like to mention the preceding experiences and to remember errors that AMETRA committed. (They) committed those errors (without) our union and one of these errors was to choose only young people, forgetting (the others) exist. Besides these problems they were giving a salary ($110) and this money pushed them to drink alcohol and ...”

“Personally I would like to continue the work on medicinal plants and I also want to take advantage of the knowledge of the elders. We know already that we’re forgetting many of the ceremonies and much of the knowledge. We cannot continue losing more. That’s why I have to thank Alberto for his work in collecting information and knowledge and for sharing with us his cures. That’s why I want this project to target the healing gardens. I was a promoter and I was in charge of continually visiting the Huachipayris and their gardens. My work was more communal but I received S/40 ($11). With this experience we have to choose well where we can put the Center of Cures. It could be in the community of Huacaria. In our curing center we have to learn and teach that if you don’t wish to (healed) by a medicine man you should begin...
“There are many challenges for the true medicine man such as: great problems of many false medicine men that lie to their people using their fake words and false medicine.”
Someone asks:
“What medicine treats fear (spasms)? Each of us with our own experience knows how to cure each illness in the best way – The treatment it takes is not important and that’s why we don’t want that from the curing center since false medicine men could come out.”
